Enshrouded Beginner Guide: Your First Day in Embervale
A spoiler-light route through your first Flame Altar, tools, survivors, base, and safe Shroud expedition.

Set the right first priorities
The opening objectives teach the systems in a useful order. Follow them until the Flame Altar and basic crafting loop are available, gathering nearby plant fiber, wood, stone, water, and food without making long detours for a perfect stockpile.
- 1
Create a return point
Place the Flame Altar in an easy-to-recognize location before ranging farther from the opening area.
- 2
Cover gathering and combat
Craft a weapon, pickaxe, and axe as recipes appear; those cover the immediate loop without over-crafting duplicates.
- 3
Secure rest and storage
Add basic shelter, a bed, and labeled storage before the first long expedition so returning to base immediately restores order.
Build a useful first base
Your first base is an operating camp, not the final showcase. Keep crafting, storage, and survivor space close together, then leave one clear side for later expansion.
- A direct path between the entrance, storage, and work area
- Space for newly rescued survivors and their stations
- A visible landmark so the base is easy to recognize on approach
Use survivors as your progression map
Rescued survivors expand crafting and give early progression a readable structure. When the journal points toward one, treat that objective as an upgrade route rather than optional cleanup.
| Priority | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Main progression quests | Open core systems and direct you toward useful survivors |
| Survivors' crafting tasks | Expand the recipes and stations available at your base |
| Optional exploration | Gather gear and resources after the route back to base is secure |
Plan the first Shroud expedition
The Shroud turns time into a route budget. Enter with one destination, note the closest safe air, and start the return while the exit is still comfortable to reach.
- 1
Mark the entrance
Turn around after entering and recognize the return view before moving deeper.
- 2
Set a turnaround point
Reserve time for combat, a wrong turn, and climbing back to safe terrain.
- 3
Bank the route knowledge
Returning without the objective is still progress if the next expedition now has a known safe path.
