Best Base Pals
These are the best base Pals in Palworld. For each of the 12 work suitabilities we list the Pals worth using in the early game and in the mid–late game, together with their work suitability Lv, food intake and whether they are nocturnal. Use it as a reference when building a lineup that keeps your base running efficiently.
How to choose base Pals
The basics: pick Pals with high work suitability levels. Pals that also cover suitabilities related to their main job, and nocturnal Pals that work 24 hours, save base slots and are more efficient. In the late game, having a Pal read books such as “Applied Kindling Handbook I” permanently raises a work suitability by +1, so you can push a Pal you like up to the Lv10 cap and put it in the base.

Kindling
Kindling is a job you want running constantly for cooking and smelting. Assign the Pal with the highest Kindling Lv, then condense it to ☆4 for Lv10 and efficiency rises sharply.
Watering
The basic rule is to assign the Pal with the highest Watering Lv. If it also has high Gathering, let it double up and save a base slot.
Planting
Pair the top Planting Lv Pal with Pals whose Partner Skill raises crop yield or growth speed, and the plantation's efficiency goes up.
Highest Planting Lv, and also covers Handiwork, Gathering, Medicine Production, and Transporting. Nocturnal, so it works at night too
Its Partner Skill raises crop yield by 18% (stacks). Nocturnal
Its Partner Skill raises crop growth speed by 50%
Generating Electricity
Place the Pal with the highest Generating Electricity Lv. One that can shift to other jobs while power is full never sits idle.
Handles both Generating Electricity and Transporting at a high level
Nocturnal, so Generating Electricity never stops at night; Transporting Lv is high too
Handiwork
Handiwork is the core of material processing. Place your top Lv Pal, ideally one that can move to other jobs when the task queue runs dry.
Handles both Handiwork and Mining at a high level
Its own work efficiency rises 30%, and it also raises the work speed of Anubis in the base by 20% (does not stack)
Gathering
Place your highest Gathering Lv Pal. Pair it with Clovee's partner skill and the whole base gets +1 Gathering Lv.
Covers 6 work suitabilities including Gathering all by itself
Handles Planting and Gathering both at Lv5, and can take on Mining too
Lumbering
Assign the Pal with the highest Lumbering Lv. Lumbering isn't needed constantly, so it also works well for short bursts when you run out of Wood.
Mining
Assign the Pal with the highest Mining Lv. Pair it with a Pal that also does Transporting so the mined ore doesn't pile up on the spot.
Has both Mining and Transporting, and is nocturnal so it works at night. It also eats little
Covers both Mining Lv7 and Kindling Lv6 at high levels
Medicine Production
Medicine Production isn't a job you keep running at all times, but when mass-producing medicine, placing your highest-Lv Pal clears it in one go.
Handles Medicine Production and, being nocturnal, works at night too
Covers 6 work suitabilities including Medicine Production all by itself
On top of Medicine Production Lv5, it also handles crop work with Planting Lv7 and Gathering Lv6
Cooling
Assign the Pal with the highest Cooling Lv. One that can switch to other work while the refrigeration units are idle never stands around.
Transporting
Transporting isn't needed constantly, so a dedicated hauler ends up idle. Let Pals with heavy workloads like Gathering or Planting cover Transporting as well, and add a top Transporting Pal only when you feel short.
Combines Transporting Lv7 with Mining Lv7, so it hauls the ore it digs up itself
Covers Transporting Lv7, Mining Lv7 and Gathering Lv4
Farming
For Farming, pick by what the Pal produces rather than by work Lv. Ingredients for the Cake used in breeding run out fast, and they come in handy for cooking too.
Produces Milk at the Ranch, which works as a Cake ingredient
Produces Cotton Candy and also cuts SAN loss for Base Pals by 10% (does not stack)
Produces Caramel Cotton Candy and also cuts SAN loss for Base Pals by 15% (does not stack)
How to improve base Pal efficiency
Add passive skills that raise work speed
For base Pals, first aim for passive skills that raise work speed. If you want them running at night too, target “Insomnia” alongside them.
| Passive skill | Effect |
|---|---|
| Demon’s Hand | Work Speed +90%, Sanity drains faster +15%, Player & this Pal: No Decay at the World Tree |
| Remarkable Craftsmanship | Work Speed +75% |
| Artisan | Work Speed +50% |
| Work Slave | Work Speed +30%, Ranged Attack -30% |
| Serious | Work Speed +20% |
| Lucky | Ranged Attack +15%, Defense +15%, Work Speed +20% |
| Conceited | Work Speed +10%, Defense -10% |
| Insomnia | Nocturnal |
Ranch Pals don't produce faster from higher work speed, so prioritize passive skills that slow SAN and fullness loss.

Push the baseline up with condensing and Pal Souls
Condensing a Pal to raise its rank increases every work suitability Lv it has. On top of that, spending Pal Souls at the Statue of Power boosts work speed up to +60% over the base value, so raise Pals with high suitability first.
