What Determines an Aniimo's Strength: Potential
Potential is the grade assigned to an Aniimo's stat boosts the moment you catch or hatch it. It comes in four grades, Common, Good, Elite, and Perfect, and each higher grade gives a noticeably bigger stat boost. Checking an Aniimo's Potential grade is the first thing to look at when judging how strong it can become.

Umbral Aniimo are affected by concentrated Vein energy. Their Innate Potential is always Perfect, though the Umbral appearance disappears once the Aniimo evolves or transforms.
A Sparkling Cube is an extremely rare Aniipod. Using one on a wild Aniimo guarantees the catch succeeds, gives it Perfect Potential, and makes it Sparkling.
Found a Wild Aniimo that you want to have a Perfect Potential? Using a Sparkling Cube to catch it, instead of a regular Aniipod, raises the chance that its Innate Potential for recommended attributes goes above 8.
Legendary Eggs, the yellow eggs, come in a few guaranteed varieties too: the Sparkling Egg, the Umbral Egg, and the Perfect Egg. Aniimo hatched from any of these three are said to have guaranteed Perfect Potential. The Sparkling Egg is one of them, and hatching one is guaranteed to produce a Sparkling Aniimo. You can get a Sparkling Egg from Elite Training, the Stamp Shop, or Catch Completion.

A Perfect Potential Aniimo isn't limited to Umbral, Sparkling Cubes, or Legendary Eggs, either. It's also possible to get one from an ordinary catch out in the Overworld, though unlike the methods above, it isn't guaranteed.
Umbral Aniimo can also appear naturally as a wild spawn while exploring the Overworld, not just through an Umbral Egg. Wherever you find one, its Innate Potential is always Perfect.
Sparkling Aniimo are also said to appear the same way out in the Overworld.

Potential isn't the only thing that decides how strong an Aniimo is. Personality is a trait randomly assigned to each Aniimo that adds its own stat bonus. Instinctive gives +4% REGEN, Practical gives +4% DMG, Faithful gives +6% M.DEF, and Judicious gives +4% HP. There's no single best Personality for every Aniimo, though: which one you want depends on that Aniimo's role and skills.
Some Aniimo also have multiple Elements, which gives them better coverage when they're up against Aniimo of other Elements.
Finally, some Aniimo have unique Skills that make them stand out compared to other Aniimo sharing the same role.
