Binding Oath Walkthrough: Vine Cores and Rewards

Binding Oath is a Journey Quest in The Mistwoods that starts after you defeat the Tucking. This walkthrough covers how to start it, every objective in order, tips for each of the three Vine Cores, and the rewards.

How to Unlock Binding Oath

Binding Oath starts after you defeat the Tucking in the "Ancient Sacred Fragrance" Main Story. Talk to the Strange Hummin near where you fought it to reveal the quest's Clue and begin the quest.

Binding Oath Walkthrough

1. Jump into the hole and talk to Ron

   For the first objective, "A talking Hummin?", find the hole in the ground near the Tucking's boss arena and jump down. Talk to the Strange Hummin (Ron) standing beside the inactive Sanctum. Sanctum: Twisted Roots can't be activated yet; it unlocks after you finish the quest's objectives.

   
2. Learn why the Sanctum is sealed

   Ron explains: "As long as the cores at the tips remain intact, the vines will continue to seal the Sanctum entrance."

   
3. Gather the three Vine Cores

   Collect a Vine Core in the eastern ruins, the western swamp, and the northern cave. You can do them in any order. Each one has its own guide below.

   
4. Give the Vine Cores to Ron

   Once you have all three, Sanctum: Twisted Roots unlocks and you can teleport to it from the map. Hand the 3 Vine Cores to Ron. He reveals that his real name is Selens, a descendant of the original perfumer Ron.

   
5. Find Selens

   Follow the marker to where Selens has moved and talk to him. This finishes the quest, and you receive the Binding Oath Curio.

What the Vine Cores Are

Each Vine Core sits in one of the Tucking's main vines. It stores the Tucking's important memories and works as the vines' backup energy source, and a perfumer in the Mistwoods seems to need one.

How to Get the Eastern Ruins Vine Core

Hexxins patrol the ruins. If a Hexxin's light spots you, you're knocked out and sent back to the ruins entrance, and disguising yourself as a Hexxin doesn't help. The trick is to stay off the ground entirely.

1. Head east of the Sanctum to the ruins

   The ancient ruins are east of the Sanctum, guarded by patrolling Hexxins.

2. Climb the outer walls

   Skip the ground paths. Climb the outer walls of the ruins and walk along the tops to stay out of the Hexxins' light.

   
3. Glide to the Vine Core

   From the top of the walls, glide straight to the Vine Core.

4. Touch the Vine Core

   Select "Touch" at the core. A cutscene shows a vine pulling back from the underground Sanctum, followed by a memory scene.

5. Open the Gold Chest

   Open the Gold Chest right next to the Vine Core before you leave.

How to Get the Western Swamp Vine Core

The swamp water slows you down a lot, and touching the poisonous mushrooms knocks you out. Bring a Fire skill or attack, since the Vine Core is behind thorn vines.

1. Head west of the Sanctum into the swamp

   The murky swamp is west of the Sanctum.

2. Jump across the rock platforms

   Jump across the raised rock platforms to stay out of the water, and keep away from the poisonous mushrooms.

3. Burn the thorn vines with Fire

   The Vine Core's platform is blocked by thick thorn vines. Burn them away with a Fire skill or attack.

4. Touch the Vine Core

   Select "Touch" at the core to trigger the vine cutscene and the memory scene.

5. Collect the Gold Chest

   The Gold Chest is on the same platform as the Vine Core.

How to Get the Northern Cave Vine Core

The cave is sealed by vines and pitch-black inside, so bring a Fire skill or attack and follow the light.

1. Head north to the cave entrance

   Head north to the cave entrance, which is marked by a Wisptis Maniac.

2. Burn the vines at the entrance

   Burn away the thick vines sealing the cave mouth. A short cutscene shows a Blessed Wisptis going inside.

3. Follow the glowing grass

   The cave is pitch-black. Follow the trail of glowing grass on the floor until you see the bright yellow glow of the Vine Core.

   
4. Touch the Vine Core

   Select "Touch" at the core to trigger the vine cutscene and the memory scene.

5. Open the Gold Chest

   Open the Gold Chest sitting beside the Vine Core.

6. Go deeper to catch the Blessed Wisptis

   After you take the Vine Core, keep going deeper into the cave to catch the Blessed Wisptis.
