Carpentry Assistance Walkthrough Guide
How to complete the Carpentry Assistance quest? Find the Carpenter's Ancient Vault in the Shroud, blast the blocked passage, then wake and summon Cade Hawthorn.

How to Complete Carpentry Assistance
Carpentry Assistance is a main quest with three objectives: Find The Ancient Vault, Find The Carpenter and Summon The Carpenter. The Journal says the Alchemist believes another Ancient Vault may house survivors who could help with base building and storage.

Find The Ancient Vault
Head to the Carpenter's Ancient Vault east of Braelyn Bridge. In our playthrough, the objective changed to Find The Carpenter shortly after we entered the Shroud near the vault.

Find The Carpenter
Go through the vault in the Shroud, break the blocked passage with Explosive Powder Balls, and awaken the Carpenter in his pod.

Summon The Carpenter
Return to your base and place Cade Hawthorn, the Carpenter, with the Summoning Staff. In our playthrough, the quest was completed right after we placed him.

Where to Find the Carpenter's Ancient Vault
On the map, the marker for the Carpenter's Ancient Vault is east of Braelyn Bridge, slightly to the south.
In our playthrough, we ran to a cliff east of our base, glided from there into the Shroud, and went on toward the vault after landing.
In our playthrough, LOCATION REACHED appeared on a cliff outside the Shroud. Shortly after we entered the Shroud, QUEST UPDATED and Location discovered XP +400 appeared, and the objective changed to Find The Carpenter.
The entrance of the vault is inside the Shroud, with a large brazier next to its gate.
Tips for the Shroud Around the Vault
While you are in the Shroud, a timer counts down. In our playthrough, it went down faster while In Deadly Shroud was shown.
Inside the vault, in front of the metal netting, there is a spot where you can select Restore Time in the Shroud. In our playthrough, using it filled the timer back up.
You cannot fast travel while you are in the Shroud. The map shows Fast travel is not possible while in the Shroud, so leave the Shroud first.
How to Get Through the Ancient Vault
Inside the vault, climb the metal netting to go on.
A blocked passage next to a brazier stands in the way. Throw Explosive Powder Balls at it to break it. In our playthrough, it took three throws.
Select Awaken Survivor at the glowing pod. In our playthrough, the objective changed to Summon The Carpenter, and SOUL DISCOVERED! CADE HAWTHORN appeared.
In our playthrough, an enemy stood by the exit door of the Carpenter's room, but the objective moved on without defeating it.
After we awakened the Carpenter, RECIPE UNLOCKED! notices followed, including Advanced Glider (+44 more) at Carpenter and Support Strut (+11 more) at Workbench.
How to Summon the Carpenter
Leave the Shroud and fast travel to your base. Equip the Summoning Staff, press TAB to open the list of survivors, and place Cade Hawthorn, the Carpenter, from CRAFTSPEOPLE at your base. In our playthrough, QUEST COMPLETED! Carpentry Assistance and Quest reward XP +800 appeared right after we placed him, before we assigned him a bed.
