GameWith Enshrouded EditorialGuide review teamGame version: Update 8 / v0.9.1.2

This page reflects Update 8 / v0.9.1.2. The game is now on Version 1.0, so some details may have changed.

How to Complete Flame Altar And Base Improvements

The Journal explains that the Flame can be strengthened at the Flame Altar, which lets you pierce the Shroud further and construct more bases. Strengthening it takes Sparks and other materials, and the Journal tells you to look for Sparks in Flame Sanctum and Flame Shrine locations.

  1. 1

    Collect Sparks

Go to the Flame Sanctum listed as the quest's location and Collect the Spark from the flame bowl at the back. In our playthrough, the objective then changed to Strengthen The Flame.

  2. 2

    Strengthen The Flame

Back at your base, open the Flame Altar's menu and choose Strengthen the Flame. In our playthrough, its screen listed 5 Resin, 5 Penny Bun, 5 Bones, 5 Shroud Liquid, 1 Spark, and 5 Animal Fur for raising the Flame to level 2, and the quest completed when the Flame reached level 2.

Where to Find the Flame Sanctum

The Journal lists the Flame Sanctum as the quest's location. In our playthrough, pressing F in the Journal opened the World map centered on the quest marker.

On our map, the marker was west (slightly south) of the Braelyn Bridge name and west of a red crossed-swords icon. That area had not been explored yet and was still dark on the map.

The World map zoomed out, with the quest marker in the dark, unexplored area west of the explored region around Braelyn Bridge

As we approached the Flame Sanctum, SEARCH THIS AREA appeared at the top of the screen. On arrival, LOCATION REACHED and NEW LOCATION CHARTED! appeared, with 1 marker added to the map.

How to Get the Spark in the Flame Sanctum

Inside the Flame Sanctum, a hint marked with a purple question mark next to a skeleton tells you to offer this Flame's Spark at the Flame Altar at your base.

At the back, go up to the flame bowl and Collect the Spark. In our playthrough, QUEST UPDATED appeared right away and the objective changed to Strengthen The Flame.

In our playthrough, the flame bowl gave 1 Spark.

How to Strengthen the Flame at Your Flame Altar

In our playthrough, we left the Flame Sanctum, opened the map, selected our base's Flame Altar, and used Fast Travel to return.

In our playthrough, interacting with the Flame Altar at our base opened its menu. Choose Strengthen the Flame (Gain global benefits) there. Upgrade Altar, listed above it, is a separate option that extends the building range.

In our playthrough, the Strengthen the Flame screen listed these requirements for raising the Flame Level from 1 to 2.

In our playthrough, we were short of Resin, Penny Bun, and Shroud Liquid, so we moved them from our storage chests into our backpack before strengthening.

In our playthrough, pressing Strengthen the Flame with every requirement met raised the Flame Level to 2, and QUEST COMPLETED! appeared for Flame Altar And Base Improvements.

After the Quest Is Complete

In our playthrough, the reward's name was not shown. On the Journal page we viewed, the reward field showed a single icon with no name or XP, and no XP or item notice appeared when the quest completed.

In our playthrough, the tracked quest switched to The Ancient Spires, with the objective Reach The Ancient Spire, once the quest completed.

When we interacted with the Flame Altar again after the quest completed, the Flame told us to find the two Ancient Obelisks of the Springlands, and NEW LOCATION CHARTED! appeared with 2 markers added. The Journal then listed two new side quests, A Story Of Fire and A Story Of Rot.

Where to Find Sparks and What They Are Used For

Both the Journal and the Strengthen the Flame screen point to Flame Sanctum and Flame Shrine locations as the places to find Sparks.

In our playthrough, every Spark we collected came from a Flame Shrine or a Flame Sanctum, and these were marked on the map with a flame icon once we had explored the area around them.

Sparks are used to strengthen the Flame at the Flame Altar. In our playthrough, the Strengthen the Flame screen listed 1 Spark among the requirements for raising the Flame Level from 1 to 2, along with other materials, and showed Altar activation capacity going from 2 to 4 and Time in the Shroud from 5 min to 6 min.
