The Hunter's Hand Spindle Walkthrough Guide

The Hunter's Hand Spindle is a main quest with four objectives: Explore Westcott, Retrace Athalan Skree's Steps, Reach The Revelwood, and Place The Hand Spindle. The Journal says the Hunter needs her Hand Spindle back to craft better armors, and that she lost it near Westcott.

   Explore Westcott

   Go to Westcott, north of the Ancient Spire (Springlands), and find the letter on the upper floor of the abandoned house at the quest marker.

   Retrace Athalan Skree's Steps

   Read the second note on the table inside the tent at the next quest marker.

   Reach The Revelwood

   Pass Willow Crush, cross the bridge north of the town and enter the cave whose entrance is blocked by a spider web. Take the Hand Spindle from beside a tent deep inside the cave.

   Place The Hand Spindle

   Return to your base, move the Hand Spindle to your action bar and place it.

The Journal lists 200 XP as the reward, but in our playthrough, Quest reward XP +400 appeared when the quest was completed.

On the map, the quest marker is north of the Ancient Spire (Springlands), slightly to the west.

In our playthrough, when we opened the map near Westcott, our position was close to the Ancient Vault (Farmer), to its west-southwest.

In our playthrough, we fast traveled to the Ancient Spire (Springlands), climbed to the top of the domed pillar of the tower and glided north for a long way. We landed without fall damage and kept going north on foot with a few short glides.

In our playthrough, NEW LOCATION CHARTED! appeared with WESTCOTT and Location discovered XP +150 when we first reached Westcott.

In our playthrough, wolves and level 9 humanoid enemies attacked on the road and in Westcott. We shot them one at a time with a bow from cover, and backed out of the village when a wolf bit us and our health dropped.

In our playthrough, Search this area appeared under the objective near the quest marker, next to a tent covered with hides.

The first letter is on a table on the upper floor of the abandoned house at the quest marker in Westcott.

There is a Respawn Point outside Westcott.

For the second objective, the second note is on a table inside a tent at the next quest marker.

In our playthrough, we passed Withered Encampment (NEW LOCATION CHARTED!, XP +60), followed the cobbled road north-northeast, and the place name WILLOW CRUSH appeared.

In our playthrough, level 11 enemies were on a watchtower and in the town of Willow Crush. We shot the ones on the watchtower from the foot of the tower, then shot at the ones in the town from walls and rooftops, but were caught in an explosion and died.

A bridge crosses the red mist valley north of Willow Crush. In our playthrough, there was a chest on the bridge and traps on the floor at its north end.

In our playthrough, we headed northeast along the road and through the woods after the bridge. SEARCH THIS AREA appeared as we entered a crack in a rock wall. We went through it, climbed the boulders and a wooden walkway beyond, and when we reached the ledge above the crack, CAVE ENTRANCE and NEW LOCATION CHARTED! appeared.

The cave entrance is blocked by a white spider web. In our playthrough, one Explosive Arrow I cleared it.

Spiders (level 13) are inside the cave. In our playthrough, we killed them one at a time with an axe and a bow, and the place name ABANDONED HUNTER CAMP appeared on the way. The quest marker did not point toward the Hand Spindle while we were inside the cave.

Deep inside the cave, a red pillar of light rises beside a tent and marks where the Hand Spindle lies. Picking it up with E Collect changes the objective to Place The Hand Spindle, and SPECIAL ITEM ACQUIRED! HAND SPINDLE, RECIPE UNLOCKED! Hand Spindle at Hunter and RECIPE UNLOCKED! Linen at Hand Spindle appear.

In our playthrough, Backpack full appeared when our backpack had no free slot, and we could pick it up after freeing one slot.

In our playthrough, a swarm of spiders appeared in the middle of the cave after we took the Hand Spindle. We did not fight them and fast traveled to our base from the map.

The Hand Spindle is a piece of furniture (RARE). Its description says the Hunter uses it to create better strings.

Move it to your action bar and select it to show placement controls such as Place and Rotate 90°. In our playthrough, placing it at our base showed Quest reward XP +400 and QUEST COMPLETED! The Hunter's Hand Spindle.
