Layered armor in Monster Hunter Outlanders changes how your adventurer looks without changing their gear. This guide covers how it works, every way to get it, including paid cosmetics, how to equip it, and the adventurer-exclusive sets. Information as of November 2, 2026.
What Is Layered Armor?
Normally an adventurer's look changes with the armor they wear. Set layered armor and they always show that look instead, while keeping the stats and skills of their real gear. You can change the look of weapons and badges the same way.

Hunt Monsters
Layered armor drops as a first-clear reward in Free Hunt and as a reward for hunting monsters in the field. If you want a specific set, check which monster it comes from.
Exchange Research Points
Garnett exchanges Aesoland Style Crates for Research Points. You earn Research Points by exploring, so keep collecting them as you play.
Buy at the Resource Center
The Resource Center sells layered armor too. Its lineup changes every day, so check back regularly.
Complete Area Studies
Each map's Area Study rewards include layered armor. Work through the exploration and challenge quests set for each map.
Exchange in the Shop
The Shop's exchanges also offer layered armor. Most of it is in the tailoring exchange, and a few pieces are in the Co-op Exchange.
Get It from Events
Some events give layered armor along with many other rewards, so take part in events when they run.
Buy It with Real Money
The Shop's layered armor tab sells paid-only sets. Paid layered armor also comes from the first top-up bonus, the cumulative top-up bonus, the daily top-up, and the Wish.
Pull on the Wish
The Wish is a gacha that costs Crimson Crest Coin, and it gives adventurer-exclusive layered armor.
How to Equip Layered Armor
Layered armor is set for each adventurer from their upgrade screen.
- Open the adventurer upgrade screen from the top of the main screen.
- Tap the layered armor icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Pick the layered armor you want. You can also set the look of your weapon and badge here.
Adventurer-Exclusive Layered Armor
These sets are made for a specific adventurer. Four of them come from top-up bonuses or the Wish, and Midori's is sold in the Shop for a limited time.
