Ecological Rank in Monster Hunter Outlanders sets the level caps of your Keepsakes and Buddies, how strong field monsters can get, and which Hunt Request difficulties you can play. This guide covers where to check it, how to raise it quickly, and what Ecological Ranks 1 to 10 unlock. Information as of November 4, 2026.
Where to Check Your Ecological Rank
Open the Menu: your Ecological Rank is shown in the top right, right below your Adventurer Rank. Select it to open the Ecological Rank window. The window shows the Adventurer Rank you need for the next rank, the rules, and the current effects such as your Keepsake and Buddy level caps.
How to Raise Ecological Rank
To raise your Ecological Rank by one, reach the Adventurer Rank milestone, meet the Proof of Mastery and Training Ground conditions, and then clear the Ascension Challenge.
1. Reach the Adventurer Rank milestone
Each Ecological Rank needs a set Adventurer Rank before its Ascension Challenge unlocks: Adventurer Rank 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55 for Ecological Ranks 2 to 10. The table under What Each Ecological Rank Unlocks lists them by rank.
2. Meet the conditions and clear the Ascension Challenge
Select Ascend in the Ecological Rank window to see the Ascension Challenge. It lists two more conditions: a Proof of Mastery Rank and a number of Training Ground clears (2 in total for the first challenge). The challenge opens once both are met. It is a hunt, against Barroth for the first one, and clearing it raises your Ecological Rank by one.
Tips for raising it faster
- Adventurer Rank is usually what holds you back. Complete the daily Adventure Requests every day (up to 3,600 Adventure EXP) and spend your Energy on Hunt Requests (200 Adventure EXP for every 20 Energy).
- Work on your Proof of Mastery and the Training Grounds before you reach the Adventurer Rank milestone, so you can start the Ascension Challenge right away.
- The Ascension Challenge is a hunt, so upgrade your party first if you struggle with it.

What Each Ecological Rank Unlocks
Each Ecological Rank raises your level caps or the Monster Star Cap, and from Ecological Rank 3 it unlocks higher Hunt Request difficulties. The last column lists only the difficulties that are new at that rank.

Higher Keepsake and Buddy level caps
Raising your Ecological Rank lifts the level caps of your adventurers' Keepsakes and of your Buddies. Higher levels mean better stats, which makes harder content easier to clear.

Higher Hunt Request difficulties
Higher Hunt Request difficulties unlock step by step. A higher difficulty gives more material rewards for the same 20 Energy, so you farm upgrade materials faster.
Stronger field monsters
The Monster Star Cap is the highest difficulty (strength) of the large monsters that spawn in the field. It goes up with your Ecological Rank.
Ascension Challenge rewards
Besides the higher Ecological Rank, clearing an Ascension Challenge gives Research Points, Style Crates and Adventure EXP.
Before You Raise Ecological Rank
You cannot lower it again
Once you raise your Ecological Rank, you cannot lower it. A higher rank also makes field monsters stronger, so keep upgrading your party alongside it.
