Gold crowns mark the largest and smallest monsters of each species in Monster Hunter Outlanders. This guide explains the two crown types, where crowned monsters appear, how to check a monster's size, and the achievements and medals you get for collecting them. Information is as of November 3, 2026; some details are from the closed beta.

What Are Gold Crowns?

Monsters of the same species come in different sizes. A gold crown marks a monster at the largest or the smallest size for its species.

There are two kinds. The Giant Gold Crown is the taller crown with a green gem in the middle, and the Miniature Gold Crown is the shorter crown with a red gem.

How to Find Gold Crown Monsters

Hunt High-Value Monsters in the Field

Monster ecology info for the field, with a crowned monster in the high-value list marked on the map

Gold crown monsters appear in the field as high-value monsters in the monster ecology info. Changing the time of day with Research Points or restarting the game doesn't refresh the ecology info, so check it once a day.

To see the ecology info, you need to raise a watchtower to at least level 2.

Survey Quests Can Have Crowns

Survey quests in Game Modes can also have gold crown monsters. The quests refresh every day, so check them for a crown while you do your dailies.

Free Hunt Can Also Have Crowns

Gold crown monsters also appear in Free Hunt. You can't tell the size or whether it's crowned before the hunt, but the result screen may show a crown afterward.

To check crowns for monsters you've already hunted, open Menu > More > research notes > monster field guide. Tap a monster to see the smallest and largest sizes you've recorded, with a crown next to any gold crown size.

After a Hunt: the Result Screen

The result screen after a hunt, in Free Hunt for example, shows the monster's size. If there's no crown next to it, the monster was a normal size.
