Engraved Gems in Monster Hunter Outlanders are the materials for Engraving, the Keepsake upgrades that make an adventurer stronger. This guide lists the Engraved Gem for each element, where to get them (the Trial Expedition gives the most), and what to use them on. Information as of November 4, 2026.
What Are Engraved Gems?

Engraved Gems are spent on Engraving together with Zenny. Engraving strengthens an adventurer's Ultimate, skills, Core Passive and more. There are six gems: Primal Engraved Gem, which can be converted into the others, and one gem for each of the five elements. Adventurers with a specialized element can ask for the gem of that element.

How to Get Engraved Gems
There are five main ways to get Engraved Gems.
- Collect a Few at a Time in the Trial Expedition
- Get Element Gems in Bulk from the Path of Trials
- Convert Primal Gems with Material Merge
- Clear Field Tasks in the Investigation Notes
- Buy Primal Gems in the Season Shop
Collect a Few at a Time in the Trial Expedition

The Trial Expedition gives Engraved Gems as stage rewards. Each stage gives only a few, but if your power is above the recommended power, you can skip the battle, so you collect them just by doing it as part of your daily routine.
Claim Stage Rewards Again with the Weekly Reset
The Trial Expedition also has a reward reset you can use once a week. Spend its dedicated ticket to receive the rewards of stages you have already cleared on the main route again.
Get Element Gems in Bulk from the Path of Trials

Clear stage 41 of the main route of the Trial Expedition to unlock the Path of Trials. It has 10 stages for each element, and clearing them gives large amounts of that element's gem. In the screenshot, the first clear of the first Water stage alone gives Torrent Engraved Gem ×1,000.
Convert Primal Gems with Material Merge

When you lack an element gem while engraving, a material merge prompt offers to spend Primal Engraved Gems to make up the difference. In the screenshot, 20 Primal Engraved Gems cover 20 missing Torrent Engraved Gems. Keep a stock of Primal Engraved Gems for when an element runs short.
Clear Field Tasks in the Investigation Notes

Field tasks (Investigation Notes Study) also give Engraved Gems. Each monster has its own tasks, such as hunting it with a given weapon or collecting a layered armor series, and in the screenshot each task gives Primal Engraved Gem ×100. When you head out to hunt a monster in the field, check its tasks first.
Buy Primal Gems in the Season Shop

The Season Shop sells Primal Engraved Gems. In Season 0 (October 29, 2026 to December 25, 2026), a pack of 200 costs 50 of the shop's coins, up to 20 times. If you have coins left after the items you want more, such as passes, Visages and contracts, consider buying them.
What Engraved Gems Are Used For

Engraved Gems are used for Engraving, the upgrades for an adventurer's Keepsake. From Keepsake Level 30, new upgrades unlock every 10 levels, and each one costs Zenny and Engraved Gems. In the screenshot, a Level 60 Ultimate upgrade costs 250,000 Zenny plus Engraved Gems. There are five upgrades, and each unlocks at different levels.
| Upgrade | Keepsake Level | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Skill Boost | 40 / 60 / 70 / 80 | Boosts the Squadmate Skill, Co-op Skill and skills. The Level 80 effect works only while you control the adventurer |
| Ultimate | 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 | Strengthens the Ultimate's effect and shortens its cooldown |
| Elemental Specialization | 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 | Increases damage while a weapon of the adventurer's element is equipped |
| Core Passive | 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 | Strengthens the Core Passive. Level 80 adds an extra effect |
| Core Attribute | 80 | Boosts a stat that differs for each adventurer |
For what each upgrade does and which to upgrade first, see the Engravings guide.
